Priscilla’s Children, Inc. is a charity formed in 2009 to benefit the children of the Rev. Roland J. Payne Orphanage in Sanoyea, Bong County, Liberia.
It is named after Mrs. Priscilla Payne, the founder of the orphanage, and a co-founder and member of the charity’s Board of Directors.
The orphanage is located in Upper Bong County, Liberia, approximately a 6-hour drive northeast from Monrovia in a four-wheel-drive vehicle over rustic roads.
The orphanage serves dozens of children, many of whom were orphaned during the civil war which ravaged the country’s infrastructure and caused untold loss of life and damage to the families and culture of the nation.
History
A native of Sanoyea, Mrs. Payne started her work for the children of Bong County in the early 2000’s after emigrating to the United States. She travels home at least once per year, bringing with her supplies and other necessities for the children.
She has attempted on several occasions to fund construction projects to improve the orphanage, which is desperately in need of renovation and expansion. Since it's founding in 2009, Priscilla's Children, Inc. has provided thousands of dollars for expansion projects, improvements and services for the orphanage.
In the past it has been difficult to find reliable contractors in the region, and on several occasions contractors have received funds only to disappear without performing the work. However, Mrs. Payne, as a Sanoyea native has been able to make effective use of funds due to her knowledge of the local community.
Organizational Mission
The mission of Priscilla’s Children is to “To assist in providing for the housing and educational needs of the children of the Roland J. Payne Orphanage, within the town of Sanoyea, Bong County, Liberia.“
Priscilla’s Children, Inc. intends to accomplish this mission by:
- Sending teams of dedicated volunteers to the orphanage to undertake new construction and improvements to the existing orphanage,
- Holding fundraising and donation drives for educational items, clothing and toys sent directly to the orphanage for the benefit of the children.
- Educating the public and increasing awareness in the local community of the plight of Liberian war orphans.
Projects
Mrs. Payne is currently undertaking regular visits to Sanoyea to oversee construction and other imporvements to the orphanage.
She utilizes 100% of all donations received by Priscilla's Children directly for the benefit of the orphanage on her visits. Priscilla's Children is run solely by volunteers using donated equipment and supplies - NO donations received by the organization go to overhead or operating expenses.Mailing List
